BLT NOT the Sandwich Article 10

Went to BLT Steak tonight, one block south of Mini Vegas, on 57th Street. It was their 7th birthday today, 3/3/04, and they were advertising on nymag.com (aka my bible) for $3.03 drinks, sides and desserts. The steaks would be priced at $33.03. Because this is run by a designer chef I was hesitant at first but decided for these prices I would be loosing money if I didn't go. Strolled in around 5pm and the bar was packed. Doesn't anyone work? Kind of made me feel a little better actually. If I was working, no way I could of gotten a seat at the bar and probably then wouldn't be able to get my nice steak dinner for 33 bones.  My friend Eric met me there at 6pm and we're pounding back these margaritas. They are usually 14 bucks so we were practically stealing them. The craziest part of the bar scene, (that's where I always eat) is that no one else was ordering the drink specials. It seemed like they were going out of their way to order the 16 dollar martinis. Doesn't make sense. Started talking to these two blonde haired women from Jersey and they were clueless about the specials. I didn't want to explain the specials as I didn't want to come across cheap. But the more I think about it, is what Eric and I doing really cheap? I don't think so. We're just taking complete advantage of the specials offered. My friend Josh came and we ordered a ribeye (22oz.), creamed spinach, hen of the wood mushrooms, and french fries. We looked like ballers, the food was great, and drinks were flowing like wine and a chocolate sundae to match. All we needed was Amare to come in on his night off and that would have capped off the night perfect. Four hours later I thought I was hogging the bar a little and called it quits. Bill came out to 32 bucks each, for Josh and myself. Great deal in the city. I asked the hostess if they do it every year and she nodded yes. Bingo! I will make this my annual BLT night out. (side note: they have these amazing popovers the size of a baseball mitt. No way I was eating mine after this huge steak so I asked for a doggie bag.) Little embarrassing but, "Hey, I'm retired at 28"!

  1. Just wondering how you and josh split a rib-eye. Do you cut a piece and feed him or do you take alternate turns cutting a piece for yourself or do you just try to cut it in half so you each have your own piece? Im intrigued.

  2. It's easy. We feed each other one piece at a time. Just don't ask how we split the creamed spinach.
