Boston, Harvard Business School, Logan Airport, College Tours...OHH MY!

Spent the last couple of days up in Boston. Nice to get outta town for a few. I only take vacations now during the week. Great deals and less traffic. Boston is a completely fine city, I mean I would never live there in a hundred years but it's fine, whatever. Saw my good friend Patrick and ate me some fried clam sandwiches. But the most exciting part of the trip was my experience at Logan. If the most interesting part of the trip is the scene at the airport, you know the city isn't that great. Also, I pride myself on having good directional skills, but navigating Boston is damn confusing! After lunch I wandered around the city and found myself in the heart of Chinatown getting yelled at by this chinese woman for jaywalking. Really? I'm way out of my comfort zone now.

Finally I get back to Cambridge, where I was staying, collected my bags and heading to the T to Logan. Security line wrapped half around the airport but my flight was delayed so I was fine. If anyone was wondering where the Mark Zuckerberg's wannabes hang out in Boston, the answer is they don't. They come to New York!! Ekkkkk!!! As the security line was moving at a painfully slow pace, I was fortunate enough to overhear two Harvard Business School kids talking. Let's just say I would rather airports get rid of security lines and risk getting bombed on the plane, then listen to these losers talk. First off, is it mandatory to where HBS jackets with your class year and group letter? Also, the jackets are made by Patagonia! That is my brand! Give them Jan-sports or Aeropostale (favored by Pitt). Then they spot two girls behind me that also have matching Patagonia fleeces BUT different group letters. Didn't know if this was a rival thing or not but they start talking and asking each other the generic questions. Undergrad, hometown, town after college, pre-MBA job. I swear three out of four of them said "yeah the usual", Harvard Undergrad, Connecticut upbringing, New York City after college, working in consulting/management. What the hell is consulting? Is me blogging consulting? I just don't get it. And just my luck they are all going to New York for the weekend. Yippie! I can smell these guys from a mile away. Lived in Murray Hill, thought it was cool to hang out in the West Village during the weeknights, and raged Lower East Side on Saturday nights. Worked at Mckenzie and probably says the Bolt Bus is a great way to travel but never would think of riding it himself. Would think about taking the AirTran from JFK into the city but deems it too complicated and takes a cab. My friend Phil is one of the smartest people I know, but still doesn't understand the bus.

Maybe I'm just bitter that I'm not smart enough to get into Harvard and make millions working for "consulting". Who knows, but I do know one thing...I saw those guys in the cab line. So far I'm one for one. But not me, I head to the AirTran, some sacrifices you need to make. "Hey, I'm retired at 28!

  1. Dude, you saw me take the bus just last week! And I was able to swipe my metrocard in under five tries, which is pretty good, I think.

  2. BTW, if you are serious about the matching jackets then HBS kids are even lamer than I thought (no offense Dave - you would never wear one).

  4. Columbia does not have matching jackets. :) Each cluster has its own tee shirt, thankyouverymuch.

p.s. not to blow up your spot, but it's McKinsey.
