LAVO

New York Magazine Best of 2011 came out today. I don't think I can agree with this review more! I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I didn't even know Lavo had a brunch. I guess this is another reason to go back. I want to write more but let the review speak for itself. Also, please note what this category won Best of 2011 for.

Best Orgy of Excess

Lavo

The histrionics of the daytime dance party are well known by now, but that doesn’t mean they’re not still ridiculously fun. The new king of the brunchtime bacchanal is inarguably Lavo, the Vegas-inspired midtown ultralounge, which draws an always-amusing mix of Europeans and publicists, runway models and derivatives traders, New Jersey cougars and MePa club kids. They arrive en masse around 1 p.m. to start coating their stomachs with white-polenta pancakes, breakfast pizzas, and colossal bottles of rosé Champagne. By three, everyone is balancing on banquettes and shouting over Abba. Order a four-figure magnum (like the six-liter Perrier-Jouët for $2,250) and it may be delivered by a costumed server: a woman painted gold, perhaps, or a little person standing on the table pouring a bottle bigger than himself.

  1. OK, so I know I've resisted Lavo until now but I am willing to check out this brunch. Also, I initially thought the article said "runaway" models instead of "runway," which seemed so much better for some reason.

  2. One more thing - these days a derivatives trader can barely afford a dirty water hot dog. Whoever wrote this article needs to get with the times.

  3. Should I write into NYMag and tell them to take out derivatives traders and input VP of Piper Jaffrays?

  4. I don't know if this makes it better or not but those are west coast times....
