I have gotten a few private messages stating that I cut my BBQ article short and could have expanded more. They are absolutely correct (and don't worry, I will write more about BBQ soon) but I was running late to my spin class. Let me reiterate; not just the run of the mill New York Sports Club class, I'm talking about (everyone take a deep breath and say with me now) Soul Cycle, ahhhhh. Opening a few years ago on the Upper West and continuing the trend to the Upper East shortly there after. Now there are four in New York, one in Westchester and one in Miami. Also, don't forget the granddaddy of em all, Bridgehampton for the summering set. This is the Lavo of spinning. I started going a little over a year ago and I'm hooked. My real bike has been collecting dust in the basement of my apartment ever since.
I always thought the "gym" was a place to get in shape and then once you've hit your goal you kind of ween off. Wrong! If that was the case Soul Cycle would be outta business by now. I think there is an interview process to even be able to step foot inside this place for these women: At least ten articles of Lulu-lemon workout gear (check), one Moncler jacket (check) and a shiny silver Soul Cycle bag (check). Then for some reason they let me and a few other straggly looking dudes in as well. I just keep my mouth shut, try not to stare and by all means necessary get a seat in the back row. Prices are steep, but first time riders to Soul Cycle pay only 20 bones and get free pair of cycling shoes for the first class (usually need to pay 3 bucks for them or bring your own). I don't want to dive in and explain too much as I want you to experience it for yourself, so chalk up the 20 spot and go! Just don't forget your Lulu-lemon gear at home...and look for me; I'll be the shady guy in the back row with my bandanna and Melo jersey tee trying not to drool. (Big side note: Thursdays at 1pm on the Upper West Side there's free classes.) Don't look at me like that, if they are going to offer free classes I'm there! "Hey, I'm retired at 28!", remember??
Speaking of Lululemon, don't they have a free yoga class on Sundays that you've been to? That could be another blog topic for the future...
