I've been hyping the new Hangover movie a lot and for good reason but I have secretly been waiting for the Bridesmaids movie which came out 12:01am Friday the 13th. This as kind of a warm up to Hangover. You know its officially summer when blockbusters start having their 12:01am showings. I don't know why but its only a summer thing. I used to love those 12:01 showings because I felt like I was getting a sneak preview and the crowds usually rowdy and drunk. But now with my retirement budget I go to movies before noon. All AMC movies in the city are 6 bucks before noon, seven days a week. Of course I try for the latest possible time and I've lucked out with some 11:45 and 11:50. I do see some movie times for noon. Who in their right minds would do that?? Either get the discount or go sleep!!! Those noon movie goers must have a nice life!
So Josh and I went to the 11:15am showing at Kips Bay in Murray Hill. Kips Bay and Lincoln Center at 1998 Bway are the two best theaters in the city. Union Square I HATE! They have some nice two level theaters but I always get sold out. Its too centrally located that the B&T crowds come pouring off the L train from Brooklyn in hordes. Awful.
Bridemaids was pretty fucking funny off the bat. It "grabs" your attention immediately; literally from the first sentence on. I think what made this such a great movie were the females actors making fun of their own craziness and showing how ridiculous weddings and the pre-wedding shenanigans can be. So I definitely think its worth seeing this movie in the theater. But you know me, only before noon. "Hey, I'm Retired at 28!
Great movie. I had a hard time breathing a couple times and almost threw up once.
